EDUCATION:
LL.B. 2005 – University of Alberta
B.A. in Psychology with Distinction 2002 – University of Alberta

Bryn has been a member of the Wills and Estates department at Prowse Chowne since 2017.  She was called to the Alberta Bar in 2006 and after briefly practicing family law, she has practiced exclusively in Wills and Estates for the past decade.

Bryn has extensive experience drafting Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, and Personal Directives which suit each client’s individual needs.  She enjoys assisting clients with more complex Estate planning needs including those with blended families, capacity related issues, AISH recipient beneficiaries, assets in multiple jurisdictions, and corporate interests, using various trust structures, while always keeping in mind the tax implications of each potential strategy.

In addition to her Wills and Estate planning services, Bryn has significant experience in preparing applications for Probate when the deceased had a Will, or applications for Administration when the deceased did not have a Will.  These applications are very detail oriented and Bryn’s experience allows her to obtain the required Grants as quickly as is possible.  Sometimes this may require in-person Court applications and Bryn will guide you through this process if it is necessary in your circumstance.

Bryn often assists the Executor or Personal Representative of Estates in collecting Estate assets and paying Estate debts.  She ensures that all appropriate taxes have been paid in order to protect the Executor or Personal Representative from liability.  She will assist in accounting to the beneficiaries including preparation of a proposed distribution and will ensure all appropriate releases have been collected and filed properly prior to distribution.  She can assist in finalizing distributions by making Court applications when beneficiaries unreasonably refuse to cooperate in the process.

Bryn is a member of the Canadian Bar Association.  She was a past Executive member and is a current member of the Canadian Bar Association Wills and Estates Section.  Bryn is also a past member of the Edmonton Estate Planning Council.  Bryn enjoys making presentations to numerous groups about issues relating to Wills and Estates and presents regularly for the Edmonton Community Foundation at Wills Week.

In her spare time Bryn believes it is important to give back to the community.  She is the past Chair and current board member of Fulton Child Care Association and Fulton Afterschool Association.  As part of that she participated heavily in a board initiative to build a playground for the children after both programs relocated.  She was involved in the planning, fundraising, grant writing, design approval and tendering process which resulted in a beautiful playground for the children to enjoy.
